Manuscript Formatting--Getting Rid of Extra Spacing Between Sentences the Easy Way

Do your crit partners tend to find extra spacing between your sentences?

Here's how to remove extra spacing between sentences in Microsoft Word.
  1. Press CTRL + F.
  2. Click on the "Replace" tab.
  3. With your cursor positioned in the "Find what" box, type a period and press the space bar twice.**
  4. With your cursor positioned in the "Replace with" box, type a period and press the space bar once.
  5. Choose "replace" to replace each instance, or choose "replace all" to replace all instances at once.*
*The same operation can be performed using "question marks" instead of "periods."
*You might also want to search and replace triple spaces if you tend to accidentally insert them.
